International Women’s Day–Why Women Make Great Leaders in the Workplace

Today’s generation have much more equality than past generations, which is when discrimination is evident in the workplace. Though women today receive the same wages and benefits in many practice settings in the Philippines, statistics still show a great disparity between men and women’s promotional opportunities. In other words, women are less likely to be promoted than men.

Why is it advantageous for the company to have women in leadership positions? And why should we promote more women?

They are Organized

Many studies stated that women tend to clean and organize to give a sense of control. Most women value the organization of practically everything. Ideas are placed in sticky notes. Plans are placed in planners. And outputs are placed in folders. Having an organization in the workplace when it comes to people and processes is a great asset to the company’s operations.

Interpersonal Skills

Why do professions like teachers, medical professionals, and secretaries are dominated by women? It is because of women’s empathy for others. They listen and understand to their clients/ patients in a way that is beyond their job descriptions. And interpersonal skills are critical in taking leadership positions as it motivates people under said leadership. In addition to this, women are great communicators. They use communication as a tool to separate barriers and to execute their responsibilities efficiently.

Views Work Holistically

A lot of women view work very differently from men. While men value career and the income that comes from it to tend to their personal lives, women view work holistically. They see it as an opportunity to grow and as alignment with their overall life plan for themselves. In a way, they are more intrinsically motivated by their work.

Creative and Imaginative

Women like to be different in terms of fashion, arts, and ideas. In doing so, they tend to be creative in their work approaches. They want to be the first one with fresh ideas and they’ll execute it with style.

And because women have these characteristics that they defy the odds in leadership. They have had experienced different roles as they climbed the ladder to success and they want to LEAD by example.
