Why it is Important to Commemorate Independence Day Now More than Ever
This coming June 12, 2021, the Philippines will be on its 123rd year of being sovereign. We have been free for a long time but compared to the 333 years of being under Spain, this freedom is just starting. And we don’t want it to end just yet.
Today, we face a different war. One that doesn’t use guns as weapons, but rather, uses the people we love. It spreads from person to person, hence, the enemy would be ourselves. And as we celebrate National Independence Day, freedom would be ironic since we are locked in our homes.
Back in the day, people stay in their homes. No television. No daily reminders to do this and that. They did it out of fear. While today, we are equipped with technology that allows a massive exchange of information, yet many remained uninformed and irresponsible. All because we became too comfortable in our homes while many countrymen are still suffering.
Why it is important to celebrate independence day? It is important to commemorate our heroes. It is necessary to awaken our national consciousness so that we could win our present battles.
This independence day, we fight an unseen enemy. The fight is not yet over. Fight with soLEADarity.
